Hair Restoration for Women

For millions of men and women across the country, older age means losing significant amounts of hair. The hair loss can be caused by genetics, lifestyle, or even accidents. Regardless of the cause, thousands each year explore hair restoration to regain their looks and confidence. Hair restoration comes in many different forms, but El Paso Men’s Clinic uses the most natural and effective methods possible.

Instead of using grafts and pills, our clinic utilizes the healing power of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to revitalize your hair. PRP is responsible for much of the healing when you have a cut or other injury, but can be harnessed to heal your hair as well.

Over the years, our clinic has helped many patients regain their hair, confidence, and drive. If you’re looking for effective hair loss treatment, schedule an appointment today.

The Types of Hair Loss

Hair loss is a multi-faceted condition, meaning there are several types of hair loss driven by multiple factors. Though genetics make up the vast majority of cases, there are dozens of different conditions. Just a few types of hair loss/baldness include:

  • Alopecia Areata (patchy hair loss)
  • Male/female-pattern Baldness
  • Traction Alopecia
  • Telogen Effluvium
  • Anagen Effluvium

These conditions can be a result of natural elements like hormones or of outside influences like chemotherapy or ringworm. In many cases, multiple factors work in tandem to cause hair loss and baldness. Our staff has worked with all types of hair loss and can develop the best plan to get your hair back.

How Our PRP Treatment Is Different

In traditional hair restoration clinics, hair loss treatment is done by a method of transplantation. These transplantation methods are called grafting, where hair is taken from one area and is implanted into the balding area. Grafting is an incredibly expensive procedure, though, and doesn’t address the underlying issues.

Other methods of hair loss include over-the-counter or prescription products like Rogaine, but these products have an incredibly low success rate. There is currently no over-the-counter medication with a high success rate, making it an expensive gamble.

PRP hair restoration addresses the problems with conventional treatments by treating the actual scalp at affordable prices and with a much higher success rate. By using the healing power of the body’s own blood, we can heal the scalp from within, instead of merely transferring hair to the affected area or using unsuccessful creams.

What To Expect During The Procedure

The PRP procedure is pretty straight-forward and doesn’t require much preparation or special instruction. For the best results, we suggest you prepare by:

  • Discontinuing blood-thinning drugs if possible.
  • Avoiding anti-inflammatory medications (these can inhibit PRP).
  • Keeping sun/heat exposure to a minimum a week before the procedure.
  • Staying well-hydrated in the days leading up to the procedure.
  • Avoid alcohol or smoking before and after the procedure.
  • Thoroughly washing your hair the morning of the procedure, but apply no styling products.

When you arrive for your appointment, our physician will prepare your scalp for the areas in which you will need the treatment. Then, we will take a sample of your blood that will be placed in a centrifuge until the platelet-rich blood is separated.

Once the PRP is ready, we use microneedling to open the pores of your scalp before applying the serum. The procedure is quick, easy, and relatively pain-free. The entire procedure takes less than an hour, so you can get back to normal life quickly.

POST PROCEDURE: TIPS FOR THE BEST RESULTS

After the procedure, it is important to take the necessary steps to maximize the healing power of the PRP treatment. Below are a few of the most important post-treatment tips for our patients.

Post-Treatment Instructions

  • Keep your hair dry for 3 hours following treatment
  • Use no hair products for at least 6 hours
  • Avoid excessive exercise and sun exposure
  • Use hot water when washing hair to help PRP
  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoking for 3 days
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medication (aspirin-based medicine) for a week
  • Refrain from swimming, saunas, or steam rooms for at least 3 days
  • Avoid blood thinners for a week (flax, vitamin A/E, fatty acids, etc.)

Post-procedure, it is normal to feel some sort of discomfort, soreness, or tingling on the affected area. If you feel discomfort, taking an Acetaminophen-based pain reliever (like Tylenol) can help. If you experience a significant amount of discomfort, a fever, or drainage, give us a call right away for additional treatment.

After your procedure, we will give you a full post-treatment procedure to maximize the healing and hair regrowth process. It is very important that you follow these tips so the PRP can work unimpeded.

Depending on the type and severity of the hair loss, more than one procedure may be recommended. Our physicians will help you determine the right treatment plan for you and your hair.
